Saint Anargiri's Monastery at Agia

8rhsk_mnhmeia_monh_agiwn_anargurwn_agias
On the way to Agiokampos and 3 km away from Agia there is Saint Anargiri’s monastery. This basilica that has a wooden roof is located on a wonderful spot among maple trees and next to a small river. The monastery seems to have been founded in 1588.

It was restored in the 17th century and in 1995 again. Its religious paintings date from the 17th century. In its precinct overlooks an imposing two storey tower with a low dome that in the past was used as a fortification.

In a short distance, 12th century places where monks led a hermit’s life have been preserved in the cavity of a rock with excellent religious paintings on the rock.
